Stretch Your Dollar: Tips for saving on summer travel

(WTNH) – We are less than two weeks away from the “unofficial” start to summer, have you made your travel plans yet?

If not, we are stretching your dollar with how you can save on everything from your destination to your airfare.

It’s time to get away!

If saving money is the goal for vacation this year, there are two popular locations travelers are finding are inexpensive this year.

Travel expert Amanda Norcross says Hawaii is one thanks to increased increased competition among airlines, including Southwest that recently launched service there.

“Another one is London. A fall in the value of the British pound means us travelers are getting more bang for their buck. London offers tons of great free admission museums and attractions,” said Norcross.

Speaking of flying, she suggests getting familiar with websites like airfarewatchdog.com that alert you when the price tag on flights change. Also, get comfortable with surrounding airports.

“Don’t just check out airports closest to home, check out neighboring airports because often times you can get a better deal by traveling a bit further to an airport,” said Norcross.

Lastly, don’t hand your money over to the any hotel with the lowest price. Be sure to seek out reputable reviews. She gave us one website that can help.

“It’s a good idea to check out sites like oyster.com. They actually will send expert investigators to provide honest hotel reviews and real undoctored photos so you know exactly what you’re getting into ahead of time,” said Norcross.

Taking time to get familiar with money-saving sites now will help you make smarter choices when it comes time to book!
